Fabric adjustments
Each fabric has its own unique properties - and it is the finishing after weaving or dyeing that determines how it will feel, behave in the wash or hold its shape. We've put together an overview of the most common textile finishes you'll find in our fabrics. This information makes it easy for you to choose the fabric that exactly matches your needs.
SOFT (sometimes also referred to as "soft finish", "softened " is the finish of a fabric that is applied after printing, dyeing or bleaching. After a SOFT finish, the fabric is softer to the touch, more flexible, more pliable when sewn, has a softer appearance and is comfortable to wear. Soft is a softener that partially separates after washing.
Super SOFT - an exceptionally soft feel that ensures maximum softness and smoothness. Pleasant for sensitive skin. Softening is created by adding a tumbler (mechanical softening) to the softener (Soft). You will find this designation in our range of linen.
Sanforization is a mechanical-thermal treatment, which is carried out during the final treatment of fabrics (mainly natural fibres - cotton, linen). It makes the fabric softer to the touch. During sanforisation, the fabric is subjected to steam, pressure and tension, which "squeezes" the residual stresses out of the fibres and stabilises them. This makes the fabric hold its shape better, flatter, smoother and more stable.
Easy Care = Easy Maintenance. It is a fabric treatment (often on cottons or blends) that makes ironing easier or eliminates it altogether, reduces creasing, reduces dirt and moisture absorption, and allows for quick washing and fast drying. We use it mainly on premium shirting or bespoke materials.
Easy to Iron. A material that wrinkles less, flattens faster when ironed, often just needs a light ironing, dry on a hanger. Mainly used for shirts, bed linen, blouses or tablecloths.
Tumbling is a mechanical process in which the fabric is rotated in a drum (similar to a dryer), and thus acquires a softer feel, is more pliable and pleasant to the touch, sometimes even slightly wrinkles and thus creates a casual effect (e.g. with linen or viscose), loses its "new" stiffness and looks more natural. The tumbler gives the material a bit of a pile that is not noticeable on linen, but creates a winter effect on cotton - e.g. our Bormio Vyella, Batavia Vyella, Adria Vyella materials.
Hydrophobic treatment = water-repellent surface treatment that causes water droplets to remain on the surface of the fabric and not soak in. Water runs down the fabric, is not absorbed, the treatment protects the fabric from drenching, dirt and stains and increases moisture resistance, thus extending the life of the fabric. A combination of antibacterial and hydrophobic treatment is also used.
Trachten satins with this marking are not softened, so it may feel slightly stretchy to the touch - however, it will soften nicely after washing. The patterns are inspired by the traditional Alpine style, but they are also very popular in our country - they are used for example in sewing costumes. It is a satin fabric which is suitable not only for costumes but also for decorations, accessories or festive textiles thanks to its quality.
Acrylic Coating Acrylic coated cotton is water repellent, easy to wash, yet retains the look and feel of the fabric. It is sun and rain resistant, holds its colour well and is suitable for tablecloths, bags, cosmetic cases, upholstery and practical accessories. Wash at max. 30 °C, do not wring, iron on the reverse side. The acrylic coating is more pleasant, softer and more breathable than PVC, suitable for frequent indoor and outdoor use.
PVC coating The PVC-coated fabric is highly resistant to water, moisture and mechanical damage. It has a glossier surface and is very easy to wash - ideal for tablecloths, packaging, bags, work textiles, bedding or covers. The material is stronger and less pliable than acrylic. Hand wash or wipe with a damp cloth, do not iron. The advantage is extreme durability and impermeability - a great choice for demanding outdoor and work use.
Combing is a mechanical treatment of the fabric in which the surface is gently roughened with special brushes. It is used in the production of Elmosa cotton flannel. This makes the flannel softer, warmer and more pleasant to the touch. The brushing can be done on one or both sides.
